Name: Tom Black (not to be confused with the pureblood family of Phineas Nigellus). Original spelling several centuries ago was Dyn Du, Welsh for "Black Man" as Tom's forefather worked in the coaling region of Wales and was constantly covered in black. But as time passed, it was translated into Old English as Blaeck, and then finally three generations ago, into Modern English as the name Black.

Standing: 2i/c of the Black Vipers - I'm going to join the Order later IC
Plot: Tom was in the same year as the Infamous Trio of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley, as well as Draco Malfoy. He was however brought into Draco Malfoy's army and has been serving the darker cause since he left Hogwarts. He will however eventually betray Draco and join the Order of the Phoenix.
Personality: Tom has always been keeping a low profile, being one of the Slytherins that never made the limelight in terms of a school-wide level, but he was always known in and among the Slytherin students. He is a natural leader and one of the best people to rely on if put in a difficult situation. He is cunning, quick on his feet, and exceptionally witty. While he was never on the Quidditch Team until his final year, he is an excellent flyer, flying for most of the summer through the Brecon Beacons in Wales. He is also VERY close friends with Draco Malfoy. However, he is also one of the most enigmatic students ever to graduate from Hogwarts, with less than half a dozen students knowing his true past.
However, he does have one weakness ... his inability to harm those that he holds dear, a trait that few Slytherins possess. He will, under any circumstances, go to the ends of the world to protect those that he loves. This was caused after an encounter with several Order Members, resulting in the death of his aunt and uncle. Shortly after, his grandfather passed away, and then even later, his parents. So throughout his life, he has always been losing his loved ones, especially his relatives. His vow is that he will not ever lose a loved one to any cause ... ever again.
History: Tom was born in Wales, near the English border just outside Cardiff. He grew up along the southern coast in Wales, constantly spending summers and winters between the coastal city of Swansea and the mountainous region in the heart of the country. At the age of five, he was travelling with his aunt and uncle in the Midlands when they were attacked by a group of Aurors. From what he later learnt, the Aurors had been tracking his aunt and uncle (strong Death Eater Supporters) down for several months. They were killed in a small town just outside Birmingham.
When Tom realised what happened, he fled, hoping that he would be able to get back to Wales before the Death Eaters. However, he was soon caught up and tortured almost to death. Luckily for him, he was found by a wizarding family near Liverpool and he stayed with them for a year. Upon recovering, he was returned to his family and was welcomed back through tears not just by his parents, but also by the village that they lived in. Tom's family had lived in a Muggle village for generations, and they weren't ready to move, but they had to keep their true identity secret.
At the age of eleven, Tom was accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft of Wizardry, where he was sorted into Slytherin House. He was soon noted by most Professors to be a "polite, well-spoken, mature" boy and a good representation of what all Hogwarts students should be. Professor Snape was especially proud of him, even at times unnecessarily giving him points if he was doing exceptional that day in Potions. But it wasn't his nice side that he was known for ... it was his hatred for Harry Potter. It was a hatred that ran truer than Draco Malfoy's hatred.
Tom hated Harry because he assumed (and was probably correct, though never proven) that James and Lily Potter were involved in someway of the death of his grandparents - who were killed before Tom was even born. Other than occassional brawl with the occassional Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, or even Gryffindor student, Tom's seven years at Hogwarts went rather quietly, preferring to keep him and his relationships with other students in the shadow. However, his hatred of Potter remained a very public and well-known thing among the student population, and among select Professors; Severus Snape was one, as well as Remus Lupin, Professor McGonagall, and the former Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore.
Apperance: Think Joseph Fiennes And look at the avatar.
Role Play Sample: (This is from another site ... Tom is much more enigmatic and unknown in this site)
The news was gold to Tom Black's ears. Smiling, he let the papers on his desk file through themselves as his doubled checked the news. Disturbing John Oakes while he was at a meeting with a false alarm was not the smartest thing to do, especially since he reported directly to the Boss. When two more hits came up on his desk, Reed grabbed his wand and pocketed it. Making a single copy of each result with a wave of his hand, he reached down and pulled out a manila folder from one of his drawers. Sliding it open, he grabbed the sheet of paper without reading it, dropped it into the folder and snapped it shut.
With the folder in one hand and his jacket in another, Tom raced out of his office and down the brightly lit corridors, his footsteps dampened by the carpet. Oakes’ office was on the top floor, but he had been pulled into a meeting at the last minute … on Tom's floor. Quickening his pace, he ignored the dozens of eyes that were tearing themselves off their work to glance at him almost skip down the corridor. Turning the corner, he opened the door nearest to him without knocking.
But he didn’t expect to get stopped by Welch’s secretary. She was muttering something about Welch being in a meeting. Tom could care less about the meeting. He needed to get to Oakes. Trying to get passed her, he noticed that she was standing in the way. She was fresh from the recruitment, just as her file had said, but Tom could tell that she was no pisshead. She knew what she was doing.
"Look, I don't give a bloody sod about the meeting. I need to see Oakes."
Not waiting for another protest from the secretary, he pushed her out of the way and walked into the meeting room. A few eyes darted in his direction, but most of the men at the table simply ignored him. Holding his breath, Tom walked around the outside of the table and stopped beside a man sitting closest to the head of the table, who glanced at him then turned back to the discussion. That was so typical of John Oakes. It better be important or it’s your headwas his motto all the time, and the staff were well aware of it, especially Tom. That was the first thing that Tom had learnt when he started his internship with the Ministry of Magic. Crouching down, he said softly, “Sir, I found him.”
